Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    Hospital and other health agency representatives who host our nursing students during practical placements now have access to a CD ROM to guide them through their role.

    Lecturer and clinical coordinator Kerry Reid-Searl said the support given to undergraduate nursing students during their clinical experience is pivotal to their success.

  • Rocky youth 'mouthing off'

    Central Queensland bands will “mouth off” at the CQ Multicultural Fair and CQU Open Day this Sunday at the CQU Rockhampton.

    Mouthing Off, a sub-committee of the Rockhampton Arts Council, will produce a full-day of performances by bands such as Stray Dogs, Alfonoki, The Cupboards (from Yeppoon), Average Like Barry, Placid, Six Ways from Sunday (Biloela), Sphere and Militia (Gladstone).

  • Student volunteers test mettle at ironman event

    A group of CQU sport management students and a recent human movements graduate are key volunteers for the Half Ironman Triathlon to be held at Rydes Capricorn Resort on August 17.

    According to lecturer Dr Geoff Dickson, the human movements science graduate (Rikki Moriarty) enjoyed her time working at this event so much she has taken holidays from her normal employment to return to the event as a volunteer.

  • Public flocked to robot competition

    Rockhampton people flocked to the first annual CQ Junior Robotics Competition, featuring RoboCup Junior Australia.

    Primary and secondary school competitors from Moranbah, Mackay and Rockhampton competed from 10am to 3pm on Sunday (August 3) at the CQ Community Sports Centre on Central Queensland University's Rockhampton Campus.

  • Speed awareness radar on campus

    CQU Facilities Management staff have been operating a speed awareness campaign on Rockhampton Campus, with the help of a speed gun and screen showing motorists how fast they are travelling.

    Awareness program organiser Damon Wells said that statistics gleaned during the week-long program would be published and could be compared with results of future campaigns.

  • Maltese exhibition showcased at the Fair

    The Central Queensland University Art Collection will showcase a Maltese photographic exhibition at the CQ Multicultural Fair and CQU Open Day at CQU Rockhampton this Sunday August 17.

    ‘Our Shared Heritage’ will showcase photographs of Maltese migrant families from the Mackay district during the period 1883 and 1940.

  • ABC presenter to broadcast live from the Fair

    Much of the colour and excitement of next Sunday’s Central Queensland Multicultural Fair and CQU Open Day will be transmitted to a statewide audience when ABC presenter David Anderson hosts a special broadcast from the event between 10am and Noon.

    ABC Capricornia has been a joint presenter of the Fair since its inception in 1993 and Sunday’s broadcast is part of the ABC’s contribution to the event.

  • Local artists' work pays off at Fair

    A culmination of a year’s work will be showcased at the annual Cooee Bay Artists Exhibition at the CQ Multicultural Fair and CQU Open Day this Sunday August 17.

    About 50 pieces by artists throughout Central Queensland will be on show and on sale at the exhibition.

  • Students take hands-on approach to satirical comedy

    Central Queensland University students are taking a hands-on approach with the production of a satirical comedy called 'December', at Rockhampton's Walter Reid Cultural Centre on Wednesday August 13.

    'December' was written by Brisbane-based playwright Robert Kronk and is presented by The Capricornia Players and the Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music, under the supervision of lecturer Emma Killion.
