- Gladstone student awarded QAL scholarship

Gladstone Central Queensland University (CQU) engineering student Alexander Bletchly, was recently awarded the annual Queensland Alumina Limited (QAL) Scholarship.
QAL Managing Director Johann van Zyl said Alexander, a first-year Bachelor of Engineering (Co-op) and Diploma of Professional Practice student, would receive $5000 per annum towards his studies.

Technicians, engineers and managers involved with welding in the Gladstone and Rockhampton regions used teleconferencing facilities to attend a Post Weld Heat Treatment Symposium on Thursday night at Central Queensland University campuses.
The Symposium was organised by the Joint Societies of the Materials and Manufacturing Societies of Queensland and was teleconferenced from Brisbane to delegates at Rockhampton and Gladstone.

The Central Queensland University (CQU) Mackay campus held a special evening to recognise and thank their Student Mentors of 2006 at the Annual Mentor presentations evening last Thursday the 21st September, at the Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music (CQCM) foyer.
“Mentors of the Year” awards were awarded to Riely Molloy, Meegan Menzies and Jessica Cope in recognition for their outstanding work as Mentors for 2006.

Rockhampton’s Week 1 total step count per total population was 279, while Townsville’s was 345.

CQU has begun research into the actual performance benefits of compression tights, building on other studies showing they have physical benefits.
The CQU study is the first in Australia to use a Near Infra-Red Spectroscopy (NIRS) device to examine the consumption of oxygen within the thigh muscles of athletes wearing the tights.
