Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    Lakes Creek Primary School students, in partnership with Central Queensland University, performed an Energy Audit on Rockhampton City Council last Friday at the Town Hall.

    Supported by CQU’s Faculty of Education and Creative Arts, the Lakes Creek students demonstrated what they had learned during an Energy Efficiency in Schools program undertaken at North Keppel Island Environmental Education Centre.

  • It's storytime for region's young school children

    Grade 1 to 3 children from primary schools throughout the region were treated to a week of storybook theatre at Central Queensland University in Rockhampton.

    CQU’s Bachelor of Learning Management students performed three short plays for about 500 children from schools such as Gracemere, Yeppoon, Cawarral and Depot Hill.

    Queensland Governor Quentin Bryce met with CQU Rockhampton Vice Chancellor Glenice Hancock recently on-campus.

    Ms Bryce who has been in the Governor’s position for four months visited Rockhampton as part of her regional Queensland commitment.

  • 10,000 steps receives top national award

    Rockhampton’s 10,000 Steps project won the 2003 Heart Foundation Kellogg Local Government Overall National Award and National Physical Activity Project Award this week.

    Central Queensland University’s Associate Professor Kerry Mummery received the award on behalf of the program and The Rockhampton City Council at the General Assembly of Local Government in Canberra.
