Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    The winners of the CQ Multicultural Fair poster competition were Michael McCoombes, 1st place for his painting entitled “Goanna Alone”; Hannah May, 2nd place for “The Sunset”; and Josiah Patson, 3rd place for “The Hot Day”.     Central Queensland University is holding an Information Day on Sunday (1 September) for Grade 11 and 12 Students about the university's Engineering Co-op Program in Mackay , Rockhampton, Gladstone, and Bundaberg.

    $10,000 is available in scholarships for the program.

  • Nulloo Yumbah reps meet PM Howard

    Laurel Hunt, CQU’s Nulloo Yumbah Tertiary Entry program coordinator and lecturer, and six mature-aged Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students delivered a framed copy of the University’s Reconciliation Statement to Prime Minister Howard on the 19th of August in Canberra.

    The students, who met with the Prime Minister for 40 minutes, are studying political science through Nulloo Yumbah, Central Queensland University’s Centre for Indigenous Learning & Research.

  • Researchers' Room now open

    Work is now complete on the new Researchers' Room at the Rockhampton campus library and is open for all to visit and use the facilities.

    The room is located on the first floor of the library and is available for group discussion, private study and consultation with librarians.

    Postgraduate research students who will complete a CRC supported degree in 2002 can nominate to prepare a water-related presentation.

  • CQ Conservatorium involved in Country Music success

    The Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music has been integrally involved in Australia\'s first country music conference, which has been declared a great success.

    Held in conjunction with the National Country Music Muster at Gympie over the weekend (August 24-25), the event attracted 40 delegates and an expert visitor from the international country music conference held in Nashville.

    There was scientific magic and experiments galore as 160 local primary school children attended CQU Bundaberg's inaugural Brainwaves Festival.

    Event coordinator and CQU Bundaberg science lecturer Desirae Kirby said students from Burnett Heads, Elliot Heads and Branyan Road State schools left the campus with extra scientific knowledge.

    Mix McDonalds, Performing Arts students, grandmas and kids and you come up with a lot of McFun at the CQU Foundation sponsored launch of Seniors Week in Rockhampton on Saturday 17 August.

    McDonalds on both sides of the city saw clowns, dancers, balloons and lots of CQU hats, when the Foundation’s Golden Years program sponsored a “Maccas Breaky”, encouraging Seniors to bring their grandchildren to breakfast.
