Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • CQU Fiji hosts first graduation since move to new campus

    Central Queensland University is hosting its first Fiji graduation since its move this year to a new campus (at 3rd Floor, 1 Ratu Dovi Road, Vinod Patel Plaza, Centrepoint, Laucala Beach Estate, Nasinu).

    This move has occurred because the site CQU has occupied since 1998 was sold last year by TELECOM Fiji to the University of the South Pacific (USP), which requires vacant possession by April 1, 2004.

  • Homestay visitors find Rockhampton among most tolerant communities

    International students using the 'homestay' accommodation option while studying at Central Queensland University Language Centre are finding that Rockhampton is one of Australia's most hospitable and tolerant communities.

    That is according to regular 'homestay mum' Michelle Hanlon (pictured with current Japanese visitor Yukako Kimura), who has hosted about 20 students from Japan, Korea and Thailand over the past two years.

    Women in Technology co-hosted an information session with Central Queensland University to promote its 2004 Scholarship and Awards program.

    The Queensland Cancer Fund’s 2004 Relay for Life has the support of even more CQU staff and students, with 10 000 Steps and the School of Health & Human Performance combining forces to raise money for cancer research.

    Relay for Life is due to be held at CQU Rockhampton athletics track on May 15-16.

  • Volvo and SAAB consultant gears up for Rockhampton seminar

    An author and consultant to Sweden's leading manufacturers will offer advice about e-commerce and e-logistics to a half-day public workshop in Rockhampton during April (Thursday morning, April 15).

    Professor Dag Ericsson pioneered the Swedish concept of materials administration and supply chain management in the 1970s and founded the international Business Resource Management company.

  • Quality audit schedule being negotiated

    CQU senior management is currently in negotiation with Australian University Quality Agency (AUQA) regarding the scheduling of the 2005 AUQA audit.

    Completion and deployment of the CQU Quality Management Framework (QMF) is progressing through a final consultation and review process and will form the foundation for the AUQA audit preparation project.

  • Movie by moonlight at Gladstone campus

    The first in a series of outdoor film nights was held on Saturday night at CQU Gladstone.

    More than 150 people attended the first Movies by Moonlight event and were treated to pre-feature entertainment by local band, “Looking for Matt”, a range of food vendors and two foreign films.

    The Rockhampton East Rotary Club president Adrian DeGroot and Vocational Service Director Robyn Ivett presented the award during a ceremony this week.

    The oldest AustraLearn student yet to study at CQU arrived in February leaving a husband and 14-year-old son back in Maine, USA.

    Forty-eight-year-old Crystal Hamilton (pictured) is studying here for one semester and plans to finish a teaching qualification on her return home.
