Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    CQU Bachelor of Tourism graduate Kimberley Harmsworth is now Policy Officer, International Tourism, in the Department of Industry, Tourism and Resources in Canberra.

    Ms Harmsworth applied for a graduate position with the Department of Industry, Tourism and Resources (DITR) in Canberra and received the job offer two days into her honeymoon! "Within months, I had married, bought a new car, moved interstate and started a new job," she said.

  • CQU Bundaberg Art Space opened

    Bundaberg Art Centre Coordinator Shelley Pisani opened the CQU Bundaberg Art Space and Dave Machen Continental Lights exhibition earlier this week. CQU Bundaberg Head of Campus Professor Alex Grady said the Art Space is a joint initiative between the Bundaberg campus and CQU Alumni.

  • CQU graduate views drugs and crime from safety of laboratory

    CQU graduate and former Rockhampton resident Andrew Stewart is now enjoying a career in Brisbane as a forensic chemist with the State Government Pathology and Scientific Services.

    Most of his work involves analysis of illicit drugs and the laboratory plays a major role in the investigation of clandestine laboratories.

  • School science teachers spend day in Uni labs

    High school science teachers from the Capricornia district have spent a day with staff and students in CQU Rockhampton chemistry laboratories to refresh their knowledge.

    Their visit was made possible by funding sourced by CQU graduate Rebecca Hack, from Rockhampton High School.

    Health-e-Steps, locally developed at the School of Health and Human Performance at Central Queensland University, has 300 free places available for residents.

    The 12-week physical activity program, commencing on Monday, July 5, uses proven strategies to assist participants in adopting and maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle along with stress and time management, nutrition and resistance training.

    Mr Jianping (pictured right with the judges) was among winners of the third annual Queensland Cup Shanghai Students’ English Speech Contest.

  • Academics converge to seek better use of IT to inform clients

    More than 100 academics from throughout the world will converge on Rockhampton in Queensland to discuss the best ways to use IT to transfer information and the best ways to educate about information technology.

    They will attend the Informing Science and Information Technology Education (InSITE) joint conference from June 25-28, hosted by Central Queensland University’s Faculty of Informatics and Communication.

  • Around 900 attend CQU capital city graduations

    Around 900 graduates from more than 40 countries throughout the world, including Australia, will attend Central Queensland University graduation ceremonies in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne this week (Tues/Wed/Thurs).

    Former Central Queensland University Vice-Chancellor Lauchlan Chipman will become an Emeritus Professor of the University during a graduation ceremony in Brisbane today (Tuesday, May 11, 2pm at The Concert Hall, Performing Arts Centre, Cnr of Grey and Melbourne Streets).

  • Film unit due at CQU Rockhampton

    A film unit working on a drama for SBS TV plans to shoot scenes at several outdoor campus locations next Wednesday May 19.

    CQU drama students will be involved as support crew members and in various cast roles.
